Teams transcript retrieval through Microsoft Graph is gaining an additional authorization layer.
Historically, transcript access was governed primarily through Graph API permissions and tenant-level admin consent. Any application, integration, or agent granted the required transcript permissions could retrieve meeting transcript data through Microsoft Graph.
Beginning in late June 2026, Teams admins will be able to explicitly govern Graph-based access to meeting transcripts through a dedicated Teams configuration.
The control applies to transcripts with and without speaker attribution and operates independently of existing Graph permission grants.
As a result, successful authorization will require more than a valid Graph permission set. Applications may satisfy Graph permission requirements and still be denied transcript access if the corresponding Teams transcript access control is not enabled.
Following the rollout, organizations will have a 30-day configuration window before enforcement begins. Once enforcement is active, transcript retrieval requests from previously authorized applications may fail unless transcript access has been explicitly permitted through the new Teams controls. Workloads most likely to be affected include:
- AI agents are consuming the meeting transcript context
- Meeting intelligence and analytics platforms
- Compliance, eDiscovery, and records-management solutions
- Custom applications built on Microsoft Graph transcript APIs
- Third-party integrations performing transcript ingestion and analysis
The new controls will be exposed through both the Teams admin center and PowerShell, introducing a separate governance boundary for transcript data access beyond Microsoft Entra consent and Graph API permissions.
