Until now, DLP policies largely focused on what the content contains.
This gap is now addressed with a practical and much-needed enhancement in Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP).
With this update, admins can now define policies based on:
→ File created date
→ File last modified date
These conditions are also available in auto-labeling policies. This shift adds important context to how policies are applied.
You can now:
• Apply stricter controls to newly created files
• Monitor recently modified content where risk may be higher
• Treat older files differently based on retention or compliance needs
General availability is expected from early to mid-April 2026.
