Users will no longer be added automatically after entering a team code.

That’s a new change coming to Microsoft Teams starting in late August 2026.

This update aligns Join by code with the existing Join by link experience, giving organizations stronger control over access to private teams.

👉 Here’s what to expect:
– Users can still generate team codes from Team settings > Team code
– Users can still enter a join code from the New items menu in Chat or Channels
– Team owners must approve or reject join requests for private teams
– Public teams continue to allow users to join immediately using a code

The rollout begins in late August 2026 and is expected to complete by late September 2026.
