Microsoft Edge Blocks Screen Capture in OneDrive and SharePoint Web Viewers

Microsoft Edge screen capture protection

If you work with Purview sensitivity labels, you’ve probably run into this one.

A PDF marked “Do Not Allow Screen Capture” would block screenshots fine on desktop, but open the same file in the OneDrive or SharePoint web viewer, and that restriction quietly disappeared! I’ve seen admins assume their labels were airtight, only to realize protection depended entirely on how the file was opened.

Edge will close this in its August 2026 rollout by extending screen capture enforcement to labeled PDFs opened through the OneDrive and SharePoint web viewers, bringing parity with desktop.

✅If your labels already carry this restriction, nothing changes on your end. Enforcement just gets stronger the moment Edge picks it up.

⚠️The rollout is scoped to Edge only at general availability. Other browsers and mobile web browsers won’t enforce this restriction, so organizations that depend on consistent label enforcement should consider Conditional Access or browser management policies to steer access to Edge for documents that carry this permission.
