These capabilities will stop being supported, may disappear from the UI, and wonโt be configurable via PowerShell or APIs. Microsoft has also made it clear that backend services may stop functioning!
The replacement path is explicit:
โก๏ธ Microsoft Purview Data Lifecycle Management
โก๏ธ Purview Records Management
One critical point thatโs easy to miss:
๐ Microsoft will not migrate anything automatically. Existing SharePoint policies wonโt be carried forward, mapped, or converted for you.
You own the transition! If youโre responsible for compliance, records, or data lifecycle, audit and rebuild policies using modern Purview tools like Policy Lookup.
April 2026 sounds distant, but compliance transitions rarely are. But, now is the time to reassess it through the Purview lens, not later.
