Interesting move from the Intune team lately, they’ve started a new “Myth vs. Reality” series in their updates, and this month’s topic was actually a good one.
One of the most common assumptions in the Intune world has always been:
“Intune takes 8 hours to apply policies.”
The new segment clarified something many admins misunderstand:
- 𝐌𝐲𝐭𝐡: App and policy changes take 8 hours to apply
- 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Intune says 90% of device changes are processed in under an hour
What Microsoft is explaining is that the well-known “8-hour sync” is more of a routine maintenance or safety check-in cycle, not the actual delivery speed for important changes anymore.
👉🏻 Modern Intune now uses separate change-triggered delivery paths for things like compliance policy updates, app deployments, and security configuration changes. These actions can be addressed through prioritized check-ins rather than waiting for the routine maintenance cycle.
The detailed blog behind this announcement was helpful because it explains how Intune handles policy delivery behind the scenes today:

I feel this new “Myth vs. Reality” approach actually feels useful. Personally, I’d like to see this series continue. There are plenty of topics in endpoint management that could benefit from this.
Good direction from the Intune team overall. 👏🏻
