Until now, automating browsers in Power Automate for desktop meant installing browser extensions (for Edge, Chrome, or Firefox). These acted as the bridge between your flow and the browser — but often caused setup delays, version mismatches, or admin restrictions.
👉🏻Now, Microsoft is introducing Direct Browser Control, letting you automate browsers without any extensions.
Instead of relying on add-ons, Power Automate now connects directly through each browser’s native driver (like ChromeDriver or Edge WebDriver).
- Before: Power Automate Extension Browser
- Now: Power Automate Native Driver Browser
They’re even adding a fantastic built-in failover option! If the new direct control method hits an issue, Power Automate automatically switches back to the extension-based method, keeping your flows running smoothly.
This is currently in public preview and will reach all in November 2025. This is going to simplify things immensely for makers and enterprise IT alike. Definitely something to keep an eye on!
