A long-awaited recovery feature is here to save admins from accidental group deletions!
Until now, once a security group was deleted in Entra, it was gone for good, taking all its memberships, permissions, and access dependencies along with it. Admins often had to rebuild everything from scratch just to restore access.
Thatโs finally changing.
Microsoft Entra now introduces soft deletion and restoration for cloud security groups, letting you recover deleted groups within 30 days.
The restored groups retain their settings, ownership, and memberships intact.
-> Deleted groups move to a soft deleted state for 30 days
-> Access via that group is temporarily removed
-> Admins can restore it anytime using the Entra admin center, Graph, or PowerShell
-> After 30 days, the group is permanently deleted
