So Microsoft is making a backend switch for three SharePoint web parts: Weather, World Clock, and Events.
They’re moving away from Big Maps and switching to Azure Maps as the new data provider, and it’s between late March and late April 2026.
The one thing you actually need to do, though, and please don’t skip this, is make sure atlas.microsoft.com is on your organization’s allowlist.
Check your firewalls and proxy settings, too, while you’re at it. And also worth mentioning, if your org operates in China, Azure Maps isn’t supported there, so that’s something to keep an eye on. Just wanted to share it early enough so no one gets caught when the rollout begins!
Feel free to pass this along to whoever manages your SharePoint environment.
