SharePoint eSignatures are Generally Available

SharePoint eSignatures

Microsoft’s native SharePoint eSignatures capability is going to be generally available between late August and late September 2025. (excluding China, Indonesia, and Türkiye).

This feature allows users to request simple electronic signatures directly from Word and PDF documents stored in SharePoint, helping streamline workflows while keeping content within Microsoft 365’s trusted compliance boundary.

‼️Important to note: This capability is off by default and requires admin configuration to enable. Once enabled:

✔️ You can request eSignatures directly from Word documents in the desktop app.
✔️ You can collect signatures from PDFs stored in SharePoint
✔️ The experience is entirely native and does not rely on third-party integrations.

To enable SharePoint eSignature:
✔️ In the Microsoft 365 admin center, toggle the Word eSignature option ON for your tenant.
✔️ Deploy the Group Policy setting:
👉“Allow the use of SharePoint eSignature for Microsoft Word”
✔️ Available via:
👉Cloud Policy Service
👉Microsoft Intune
👉Group Policy Manager

‼️Note:
👉 PDF eSignatures do not require Group Policy.
👉 Only Global Admins or SharePoint Admins can enable this feature.

This is a great move for orgs that care about document integrity, internal workflows, and compliance. I’d recommend checking your admin settings early and informing your teams, it’s a feature that could streamline a lot of manual work.

Are you planning to enable it? Curious how many have been waiting for this! 😊
