The old policy lumped multiple mail-sending settings (like Automatic Name Checking, Importance, Sensitivity, etc.) into a single setting, which, when configured, ends up locking the UI for all options in Outlook. It was a bit of a blunt instrument!
โ Now, each setting gets its own policy, so adjusting one wonโt disable the others.
- October 14, 2025 โ New individual GPOs will start appearing in the Office admin templates (ADMX/ADML) that replace this legacy policy.
- January 13, 2026 โ The old โWhen Sending a Messageโ policy will officially be removed.
This is not an automatic change. Admins, you need to:
- Review if youโre currently using the โWhen Sending a Messageโ GPO.
- Plan to migrate to the new individual policies before Jan 2026.
- Download the latest ADMX/ADML templates once Microsoft updates them.
Go get those templates and plan your migration! This will save a lot of admin frustration.
