When someone who is deaf or hard-of-hearing joins a Teams meeting with a sign language interpreter, the interpreter speaks out loud for them, right?
But the problem is that Teams has been putting the interpreter’s name on all the captions, transcripts, and meeting notes. This might sound like a minor issue, but if you’re the one actually contributing ideas in the meeting, shouldn’t your name be on those contributions?

From March, when an interpreter speaks on behalf of a participant, Teams will automatically credit everything to the right person – the one who’s actually signing. Captions, transcripts, Copilot summaries, and action items all show the actual contributor, not the interpreter.
It builds on the existing Sign Language Mode feature and works automatically once an interpreter is assigned and is on by default.
I feel like the best updates are the ones that just make things work the way they should have been from the start! Rolling out worldwide March-April 2026, if you want to keep an eye out for it.
