Microsoft 365 Adds Cloud Attachment Preservation for Users on Infinite Hold

Previously, if you wanted to safeguard files shared via OneDrive or SharePoint, you had to rely on labels applied to attachments and links. This worked across Exchange, Teams, Viva Engage, and Copilot, but it didn’t fully preserve all file versions for users on infinite hold.

Now, Microsoft introduces a new cloud attachment preservation capability:
Users on infinite hold will have all their file versions preserved, across any OneDrive or SharePoint site.

This is different from labels, as it directly ensures compliance retention rather than controlling sensitivity or access.

For organizations handling legal or compliance requirements, this means complete protection of shared files and their versions, giving peace of mind that nothing can be accidentally deleted or lost.
