You can now chat with anyone using just an email address in Teams!
We’ve all been there. You need to message a client, vendor, or partner, but they are outside your organization. Admins know the drill: juggling guest invites, permissions, and external access policies just to start a simple chat.
Microsoft Teams is about to make that easier.
Starting November 2025, users can chat with anyone using their email address, even if the person does not have a Teams account.
➡️ Enter the person’s email address in Teams.
➡️ The recipient receives an email invitation to join the chat session as a guest.
➡️ The chat experience follows your organization’s Entra B2B Guest policy, keeping it secure and compliant.
➡️ Works across desktop, mobile, Linux, and Mac.
This feature is enabled by default. To disable, set: UseB2BInvitesToAddExternalUsers = False under TeamsMessagingPolicy.
Rollout Timeline:
Targeted Release: Early–Mid November 2025
General Availability: January 2026
Would you keep this on for your users or turn it off?
